July 2008
Hi,
This is our first Rally and I can't wait - we intend having a party and a bit of a laugh, we're also half expecting to break down or even possibly getting locked up on route but raising some money for a good cause will make it all worthwhile.
The Wacky Rally across Europe. Think Gumball 3000, think Lewis Hamilton and think Paris Hilton and you couldn't be further from what we're doing...
We are hopefully going to drive 1,500 miles from Lille to Barcelona via Switzerland, Germany and Italy ...all in less than four days!!!
We've got a 1995 BMW 740. It rattles, brakes aren't anything to write home about and the steering rack is dodgy, but we're trusting it. After all, it's German!!!
We bought the car Saturday from a generous local dealer whom literally and luckily had just taken it in part-exchange (see pics) and its now up the drive about to receive a paint job (pics to follow).
We are covering the cost of the car, fuel, beer and all of the other expenses, which means that every penny we raise will go to our chosen charity.
IF we make it to Barcelona were we have our return flights booked for the Tuesday morning (straight after the party) we hope to find a drunk Spainaird to buy our ‘tried and tested’ BMW, hopefully generating another £250 for the charity,
Roll on 9/11 for when we set sail Team Van, Kevin, Jamie and Mark
August 1st 2008 Update
Car's now in the process of having it's paintjob, taken out the rust blisters and done the first coat of one side and the roof - I'm completely knackered
August 16th 2008 Update
Team member Mark has just collected the BMW because he has decided that it would be nice to glaze the bonnet and show off its engine !!! see pics
August 22nd 2008 Update
Showing off the now highly painted engine has created more crowds than at Reading - Mark decided we best now have a crowd control guard grill strapped to the front of vehicle, should keep those pesky french from getting to close to use.
August 23rd 2008 Update
We have now completed our major works and stickers will now be added within the next few days.
August 30th 2008 Update
Stickers have been affixed with the odd speling mistake courtesy of The Stupid Sign Co.
Sept 8th 2008 Update
The car will now be tested by all drivers before we set off for Dover.
Sept 10th 2008 Update
An early start is now required as we have now decided to turn left once in France to visit 'the miracle of Dunkerque' and then maybe pop into Belgium for a beer before the long drive to Lille, look forward to seeing you here.
